No, not that kind of sex! Sex as in baby's gender. I am now less than a month from being able to find out what I'm having and still on the fence about whether I want to know or not! Since I still don't know I'm having all kinds of fun looking at old wives tales and gender prediction quizzes on the Internet. Here are a few of my favourites:
Baby’s heartbeat: If the baby’s heartbeat is lower than 140 beats per minute you are having a boy. If it is higher than 140 beats per minute you are having a girl.
Four ultrasounds so far have shown a heartbeat above 150 bpm, so chalk one up for the girl side.
How are you carrying? Low and all out in front indicates a boy where as high and all around indicates a girl.
What does it mean if you are carrying low and all around? I'm having a boy and I'm just fat? I think I've got to give this one to team blue.
Your appearance: You’re blooming in pregnancy means a boy but if you’ve missed that “blooming” stage you could be having a girl. Another way I’ve heard it is that boys make you beautiful but girls steal their mother’s beauty.
Yeah, I've never seen that pregnancy "glow." I think it's a myth. This one definitely goes to the girls.
Morning sickness: If you suffered from morning sickness in the first trimester you will have a girl and no morning sickness means a boy.
This is a tough one. I don't get morning sickness in the traditional sense, but I've definitely felt nauseous. And there was some praying to the porcelain god, so I've got to give another point to team pink!
Food cravings: salty and protein like meats and cheeses indicate a boy and sweets and fruit indicate a girl.
Is it possible I'm having a boy and a girl and all four ultrasounds have missed that? Some days I crave meat and cheese and some days I can't get enough sweets. However, when I was pregnant with Kaycie, I couldn't eat any meat, cheese, or bread at all so I think this one should go to the boys!
Your feet: No, not whether or not they smell. If your feet get cold faster now than they did before you were pregnant you will have a boy – stay the same means you’re having a girl.
This is an easy one for me. I'm always freezing so I would definitely notice of I was colder now. My feet - and the rest of me - has actually been warmer so this one has got to go to the girls.
The wedding ring test: Tie your wedding ring to some thread, hang it over your stomach. If it moves in circles you are having a boy. If it moves side to side you are having a girl.
I was stumped about this one at first. I don't have a wedding ring. Well, I do, but it's from a previous marriage so it just didn't seem appropriate. Ultimately what I did was dangle a dog tag and chain that I had made for the Sperm Donor. Side to side was the result, so this one's for the girls.
Mayan calendar prediction: Combine your age at the time of conception with the number of the month you conceived. If the resulting number is even it’s a boy. Odd – it’s a girl.
Argh! Math! Let's see, age at conception: 33. Number of month of conception: 3. 33+3=36 - even number so this one goes to the boys!
Hairy legs: If the hair on your legs is growing faster, it will be a boy. If it is growing at the same pace, it will be a girl.
Well this one definitely goes to the girls. Thank goodness! A few more months and I won't be able to reach my legs so I'll definitely be thankful then.
Headaches: If you’ve been headache free it will be a girl (they cause those later on in life). If you’re more prone to headaches, it will be a boy.
I have never had more headaches in my life, so the boys get another point.
Urine: If your urine is bright yellow, it will be a boy. Dull yellow and it will be a girl.
Who knew I would spend so much time staring at my pee. Some morning's it's bright yellow, by the end of the day it could be dull yellow. This one is definitely a draw.
So what is the final tally?
Team blue: 4
Team pink: 6
However, those are pretty close numbers. Pretty much 50/50! I've always relied on my first instincts. They've served me well in the past. My first instinct with Kaycie was that I was having a girl. This time around I just felt like it was a boy. The Sperm Donor even got in on things claiming that his "gut instinct says it's a boy." So that is my official guess. Team blue for me and I'll be very shocked if I'm wrong. Anyone else want to wager a guess?
