This website if for a non-profit, non-salaried, volunteer organization called Potcake Place. They specialize in international adoption of Potcake Pups. What are Potcake Pups? They are island strays from the Turks and Caicos! These dogs are born on the streets and beaches to strays and are often poisoned or shot by local officials who have deemed them a nuisance. Spaying and neutering is very expensive on the islands and is often not done, resulting in a huge stray population. These dogs are called Potcake Pups because people will feed them the leftover cake from the bottom of their pots.
Although born as strays, all of these pups seem to have delightful personalities and just want to be cared for. Take a look at some of the current pups up for adoption:

Potcake Place finds these dogs and take them into their own homes until forever homes can be found for them. As there are not enough people on the islands to care for the strays, they are now reaching out to those of us who live in the United States and Canada. There are a few ways you can help.
1. Click on the link below and donate via Paypal. Remember, all expenses are incurred by the volunteers out of the goodness of their hearts!
2. If you are vacationing in the Turks and Caicos and can't adopt a Potcake pup yourself, volunteer to chaperon one back to the States or Canada. "Couriers" are needed to airports all over North America.
3. Adopt a pup. Either take a vacation and bring one home yourself or arrange for a couriered pet.
Here's how it works:
Once an application for a pup has been approved, Potcake Place starts looking for a "courier" to take the pup to it's forever home (provided the new owners aren't going to be on the islands themselves). Once a courier has been found, they meet at the airport on departure day. All expenses are paid by Potcake Place and the new owner. It costs approximately $100 to send a pup via air from the islands to North America. ($200 on Delta) The pup is given a sedative and placed in a carry-on bag. The courier takes the pup through security and escorts it through the flights and connections. Upon arrival the courier meets up with the new owner and hands over the pup. As easy as that!
Potcake Place makes sure that all vaccinations are up to date as well as vet checked and certified for shipping to North America.
I've already decided that because of this amazing charity my next wedding or honeymoon will be taking place in the Turks and Caicos and we'll be bringing one of these little guys home with us. In addition, I'll be asking all my friends and family to act as couriers, so just fair warning! As always, check with your local shelter to make sure that they don't have an over abundance of dogs waiting for homes before you look elsewhere. The shelter where I live has a whopping two dogs up for adoption right now, so I think I'm in the clear to help out some strays (especially super cute ones like these!) from another country. Please check out their website here.

What a great cause! I am surprised I've never heard of them before since I spend a lot of time looking at dog rescue sites. I think this will be the place I look if I am ever in the position to get another dog. And if I ever do travel to the area I would be happy to play courier to one of those cute pups!

I'm glad you would courier Trace! I looked on their website, and 26 of these pups have already gone to Alberta so I'm sure you live in a great place to courier one to. I think we'll definitely have to plan an island vacation to the Turks and Caicos in the next few years! :-)
